You're invited to check out a performance by the Orontes Guitar Quartet at an April 14 concert.

The group, which hails from Damascus, Syria, is the recipient of a prestigious fellowship grant from the Artist Protection Fund, an initiative of the Institute of International Education.

Through the auspices of the APF, Orontes was welcomed as visiting artists at the University of Victoria’s School of Music in Victoria, BC - their home for the duration of their APF Fellowship.

Orontes has been invited to Sudbury by the Sudbury Guitar Society, a community group of students, teachers, amateurs and professionals from Cambrian College, Laurentian University, Long & McQuade and private studios.

“We wanted to give these gentlemen a big, warm Canadian welcome and introduce them to one of the happiest cities in the country!” said Matthew Gould, artistic director of the Sudbury Guitar Society.

“The audience can expect an exciting afternoon of music and meet the artists.”

The concert will open with a performance by the Sudbury Guitar Society. Guests from the Lively Ukelele Group have also been invited to take part.

The concert is part of a three-day festival running April 12-14. Other events include a concert featuring guitar groups from Sudbury schools at Sudbury Secondary on April 12 at 12:30 p.m., and a performance by Daniel Cerovi from Montenegro on April 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Ste-Ann-Des-Pins church at 7:30 p.m.

There's also a meet-and-greet and performance by Orontes at Tom Davies Square at 11 a.m. April 12.
