Whitefish resident Tom Byers builds birch bark canoes using traditional methods and materials found in the forest.
Recently, he was joined by a few friends who travelled all the way from Chisasibi, Que. to learn the craft.
Armed with their trusty Muukudaakins (the Cree word for crooked knife), they spent the last three weeks building a Cree-style birch-bark canoe. NorthernLife.ca was there to film the canoe's first launch.
