The cyclist who was killed in a collision on Paris Street late in the evening of Labour Day was an 85-year-old man, according to a release issued Tuesday by Greater Sudbury Police.

Police say they responded to a collision involving a cyclist on Paris Street near the Birchglen Apartments at around 10:30 p.m. Sept. 4.

The driver of the motor vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene before police arrival, but then returned a short time later.

The cyclist was transported to hospital by EMS, but he succumbed to his injuries.

The 25-year-old man who hit him has been charged with fail to stop at the scene of an accident involving death and dangerous driving causing death.

The identity of the cyclist will not be released out of respect for the family, say Greater Sudbury Police. “We send our condolences to the family and friends of those affected by this tragic event,” said a press release.

Police are seeking witnesses to this event. Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Greater Sudbury Police at 705-675-9171, ext. 2417.

A cyclist has died from his injuries after a collision with a vehicle on Paris Street at Indian Road late Monday night.

Greater Sudbury Police said in a tweet at 10:40 p.m. that the involved vehicle had fled south on Paris Street. 

In another tweet issued at around 4:30 a.m., they said the driver had been located. The roadway was partially closed for a time overnight due to the collision, but was fully reopened by early Tuesday morning.
