Young Sudbury Singers, Sudbury’s premier choir for children and youth, is inviting new singers in Grades 1 and 2 to join its Junior Choir after the March Break.

Rehearsals will be on Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m. at Sudbury Secondary School, 154 College Street, starting on March 20.

Participants will engage in a variety of musical games and exercises over the five weeks, learning several pieces in a safe and supportive environment that will foster a lifelong love of singing.

The new Junior Choir members will perform with the Intermediate and Senior Choirs at the group’s spring concert, which will feature jazz guitarist Jamie Dupuis.

The concert will be held on April 20 at 2 p.m. in the Sheridan Auditorium at Sudbury Secondary School, 154 College Street in downtown Sudbury.

Junior Choir Director Colette Nadeau is the music teacher at R.L. Beattie Public School, and a former music itinerant teacher with the Rainbow District School Board.

“She brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to YSS and is looking forward to working with our newest singers,” the group said in a press release.

As the Young Sudbury Singers continue to expand to better serve the community, the group plans to offer three choirs in September: a Junior Choir for Grades 1-4; an Intermediate Choir for Grades 3-6, and; a Senior Choir for Grades 5 and older.

The overlapping ranges allow choir directors to place your child in the choir most appropriate to their ability and experience.

Young Sudbury Singers is offering interested Grade 1-2 students an opportunity to sing for a few weeks this spring before making a longer commitment in the fall.

The organization has kept registration fees low so that the choir remains accessible to all youth in the community. The fee for this five-week program is just $50 per child, or $75 for two children in the same family.
