For most, tax season is an unpleasant time. But, for those who can't afford to take their T-4 slips and receipts to an accountant or even over to the neighbourhood H&R Block, filing income taxes can be especially stressful.

United Way Sudbury and Nipissing Districts will be offering a bit of relief to low-income individuals and families when the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program opens at its new office location, 957 Cambrian Heights Drive, Unit 201, from Mar. 1 through Apr. 28.

Individuals earning up to $30,000, couples earning up to $40,000 combined, and one adult/one child pairs earning up to $35,000 qualify to have their 2016 and 2015 tax filings completed by trained volunteers. Individuals or couples with more than one child still qualify as long as their income is limited to $2,500 for each additional dependent.

Clients may bring all their slips and, if applicable, their previous Notice of Assessment, during regular hours of operation: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday from  9 a.m. to 12 p.m. There will also be clinics held on Saturdays at public libraries throughout the City of Greater Sudbury. Clients who have three or more years to file must make an appointment ahead of time.

Call the United Way at 705-560-3330 ext. 201 or visit UnitedWaySudbury.com for more information.
