Photos: Emotional opening ceremony for DJ Hancock Memorial Park

Dozens of children join slain teen's family and friends for opening of park, splash pad

The DJ Hancock Memorial Park in the city's South End had its grand opening Wednesday with a large crowd of children and families there to welcome the new addition to the community. The park cost $500,000 to complete and was made possible thanks to $172,000 in funds raised by the Splashpad of Champions Committee, and donations in kind for the various set pieces and splashpad.

Enjoy these photos of what was an emotional event for the Hancock family and friends of DJ Hancock, who died in a crash caused by an impaired driver two years ago.

Sudbury.com will be bringing you a story and a video from this morning's event a little later on today.
