Greater Sudbury is among the cities with the best air quality conditions in Ontario, according to a new report from Clean Air Sudbury.

Clean Air Sudbury is a non-profit community group that provides education on air pollutants, their sources, their impacts on health and what level of air pollution Sudbury is exposed to.

The group will release the third instalment of its “Clearing the Air” report on Wednesday, June 8, 2016.

“We’re very proud to be able to report that once again air quality in Greater Sudbury is experiencing continual improvement,” said Barb McDougall-Murdoch, co-chair of Clearn Air Sudbury, in a press release ahead of the report's official release.

“We’ve come a long way and can now say that Sudbury’s air quality ranks among the best in cities in Ontario.”

“Clearing the Air” is a 100 page report that explains local air quality conditions. First published in April 2005, “Clearing the Air” is updated about every five years.

The first instalment of the report was developed to help local residents understand the different types of air pollutants and how they affect human health and the environment.

“I see it as a needed community resource,” said Jennifer Harvey, Clean Air Sudbury’s co-ordinator, in a press release.

“Since moving to Sudbury almost a year ago, I’ve heard a few people comment on how poor our air quality is in this city. That may have been true in the past, but current data is showing us that much has changed. Part of Clean Air Sudbury’s mandate is sharing information on the state of our air, which in turn may help dispel the belief that Sudbury air is unhealthy to breathe.”

Sudbury.com will have more on the full report after it is released Wednesday.

Clean Air Sudbury says on its website that its funders are Vale and Glencore.
