Since Feb. 11, Malleck Kennedy has been engaged in battle.

With his family by his side, the feisty four-year-old, who his family nicknamed “Mighty” Malleck, has been fighting Precursor B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The family has been staying at Ronald McDonald House while Malleck receives treatment at Toronto SickKids.

Because the boy’s birthday is this month, his family is hoping the whole community can give Malleck a birthday present that benefits everyone — donating blood.

“It's the perfect present for any little boy out there fighting for his life,” Malleck’s mother, Sarah Kennedy, said. “Leukemia patients often require blood products as part of their treatment.”

The blood drive is being held on March 27 (Monday) from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Canadian Blood Services donor clinic at 944 Barrydowne Road.

Giving blood isn’t the only way you can help this local family in their hour of need.

Sarah Kennedy’s sister, Krista Paul, worked with Tannys Laughren at the Northern Cancer Foundation to set up the Mighty Malleck Fund, a way for you to directly assist the Kennedys.

“One hundred per cent of the of money raised through this fundraiser will go towards supporting Malleck and his family during this difficult situation,” Paul told Sudbury.com.

To book an appointment to donate, you can download the GiveBlood app from the App Store or Google Play, or you can visit Blood.ca.
