Sometimes, life just doesn't go as planned.
Such is the story behind Justin Robert's winning shot at the Vale NHL versus Docs for NEO Kids hockey game on Sunday.
"We weren't even planning to go," Robert said. "The reason we got the tickets was through my son's daycare. We decided last-minute to support the good cause."
Robert also hadn't planned on wearing his flip-flops on the ice pad that day but at half-time, he was randomly selected to participate in Palladino Honda's "Shoot to Win" contest.
"I just kinda had to wear what I had," Robert said. "The flip flops made no difference at all -- I didn't slip."
When asked if he plays hockey or had any practice shooting on net, Robert replied, "I don't even play hockey, I golf."
In all this, Robert has no words to explain why his shot on net this Sunday kept going until it crossed the goal line, winning him and his family a brand new Honda Civic. All he could say is, "It felt amazing. It was great. Quite the rush."
Robert's wife, Paula Pacaud, was recording the whole thing. When the goal was made, she says she threw her phone.
"I was so happy. The win couldn't come at a better time," Pacaud said. "I've been bugging him for a year to get a vehicle that's better on gas and that has lower payments."
Apparently, the couple intended to go car shopping today. Now, thanks to Palladino Auto Group and Palladino Honda, life and luck seems to have other plans for their family.
