Hello, Sudbury.com+ members! Welcome to 2021!
We hope you enjoyed the holiday season this year. It certainly was different to celebrate smaller (though it was also a welcome break from the typical Christmas craziness).
Now that we’re into 2021 and a new year is upon us, here are my news resolutions for 2021.
Better comment moderation
Comment moderation is the toughest job I have, I think. It’s difficult to manage a conversation that you’re not a direct participant in. We strive to moderate objectively and to moderate comments within the context of a discussion and to try to understand the nuance.
It is difficult but rewarding work. My goal this year is to continue to try to raise the level of conversation on Sudbury.com, while weeding out misinformation, conspiracy theories and personal attacks.
More editorials
Sudbury.com struck a new editorial board this year to continue our longstanding tradition of comment and criticism on the issues of the day. We are the only news outlet in Greater Sudbury that still has an editorial voice and our goal for this year is to continue that this year.
We feel that it is important to weigh in on the issues that matter and to do so in an objective, but passionate and data-driven way.
More depth
This is a tough one. We always strive to give readers as much depth as we can on the issues we cover. But in the modern news market (where smaller newsrooms are more nimble but often lack shovels for deeper digging), depth can be a real challenge — at least compared to the reality of several decades ago when dozens of reporters staffed newsrooms.
Our goal this year is to try to bring added depth to the beats we cover to give readers a fuller picture of the issues of the day.
Members, our driving force and our passion will always be serving the citizens of Greater Sudbury, of keeping you informed, of providing a forum for you to debate and discuss, and to entertain and engage you with the kind of local coverage you can’t get anywhere else.
