Police seize cache of drugs, cash, SIM cards in Pine Street raid

Investigation turned up crack cocaine, opioids, prohibited weapons and cash

A drug raid today at a residence on Pine Street turned up prohibited weapons, SIM cards for cellphones and some $40,000 in illegal drugs.

On May 2, Greater Sudbury Police said in a news release that detectives from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) concluded an investigation that targeted suspects from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) “who were believed to be trafficking illicit drugs in Greater Sudbury.”

Detectives along with members of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU), K-9 Unit and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Provincial Guns & Gangs Enforcement Team executed a search warrant on a Pine Street residence.

“During the search warrant, detectives located approximately 298 grams of crack cocaine, 117 Oxycodone pills, 511  Hydromorphone pills, 55 morphine pills, over $6,000 in cash, two prohibited weapons, and 275 Cellular SIM cards that  are suspected to be stolen,” GSPS said. “The estimated street value of the drugs seized is over $40,000.”

A 24-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, both from the Greater Toronto Area, were arrested and are each charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking: Cocaine 
  • Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking: Oxycodone 
  • Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking: Morphine 
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 

The two men had a May 2 date in bail court to answer to the charges.
