In memoriam: Mervin 'Bud' Burke

A well-known Sudbury businessman, Mervin “Bud” Burke, passed away in Ottawa, ON on November 16, 2022 at the age of 92 (July 12, 1930).

Bud was the only son born to Albert and Rose (Dorherty) and was born in Buckingham, Quebec.

Bud is survived by two sons, two grandsons, two granddaughters and one great grandson. He is also survived by two sisters, Alvina Haley of Sudbury and Thelma Lessard of Ottawa.

Bud was well-known in the Sudbury business community and was an avid sports fan. He was the owner of Burke’s Plumbing and Heating, built and owned Roller Country and had numerous real estate holdings. He was also the majority owner and driving force for getting the Sudbury Wolves from Niagara Falls in 1972. More recently, his love of horses brought him to Florida where his stables developed world-class trotters including two champion trotters.

Bud was known as a hard worker and a generous sponsor of local charities.

A memorial mass will be said on Saturday, November 26th at noon at Christ the King Church in Sudbury.
