The Canadian UFO Survey is out for 2016 and Barrie leads the way in Simcoe County with three out of ten reported UFO sightings.
One report was on Mar. 24, 2016, right before the big ice storm and a 12-hour power outage in Barrie.
Someone claimed to spot a "cylindrical object with bright flashing lights on its ends moving slowly, flashing turquoise, blue and red light in the sky."
Then there was the same reported sighting two nights in a row in June.
"White light flying in a straight path, 'wobbling' along the way before fading out," a person said they saw on June 10 and 11.
The third Barrie supposed sighting was an 'object seen in photo after being taken during a rainbow' on Oct. 20.
Other Simcoe County UFO reports included one in Alliston that was "grey oval-shaped object following a plane before disappearing"; Wasaga Beach was "large orange light moving in the sky before changing direction"; Innisfil had a report of "7 orange lights flying in a straight line across the sky."
The annual Canadian UFO Survey is conducted by UFOlogy Research of Manitoba, which has been collecting sightings data from active Canadian researchers and investigators since 1989.
UFO sightings are still being reported at a near- record level, according to the survey.
In 2016, 1,131 UFO reports were officially filed in Canada, the fifth year in a row above 1,000 cases but down slightly from 1,267 UFO sightings reported in 2015.
Last year most UFO reports were recorded during the summer with June, July and August having a combined 37.7 per cent of all cases.
Most sighting reports were simple lights in the sky, known as Nocturnal Lights (54.9 per cent), and Close Encounters comprised less than one per cent of the total.
The most popular shape of UFO reported in 2016 was a simple point source of light.
Other shapes reported were Triangle, Ball, Cigar and Fireball.
The classic “flying saucer” was only reported 48 times or 5 per cent in 2016.
While the vast majority of cases reported to UFO groups and official agencies are of low Strangeness, some rather odd incidents are reported each year, the report states.
"Close Encounter cases are definitely in the minority, but some of these cases are extremely close indeed," it said.
A witness in Cornwall, P.E.I. reported that a thin, six-foot-tall, long fingered, white alien in a black suit appeared in his bedroom. The witness spoke to the alien, which then left by walking through a wall.
In Tecumseh, Ontario a man reported that an alien entity was responsible for stealing his sunglasses, belt and silver possessions. Later, the man produced a photograph in which he thought a 'rip in space and time' could be seen.
One report from Quebec simply stated 'They contacted me.'
Last year there were 12 reports of UFO sightings in Simcoe County.
