Amazingly, no one was injured in this Barrie crash

SUV lifted off the ground under transport truck

Barrie Police say it's a miracle no one was injured when an SUV collided with a transport truck at the intersection of Mapleview Drive East and Highway 400.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday with the SUV partially lifted off the ground underneath the transport truck, which was also left partially in the air.

Two adults and a baby were in the SUV, according to Barrie Police Const. Sarah Bamford.

"Both vehicles were in the left lane to go northbound onto the highway and it appears at the last minute the SUV driver decided to go straight and that's how it ended up underneath the transport truck," Bamford said.

Simcoe County Paramedics and Barrie Fire also responded to the crash.

"Usually from my experience, seeing collisions involving small compact vehicles and large transport trucks, the compact vehicles don't win so it's a miracle that nobody was hurt," said Bamford.

Police say a 35-year old Barrie woman is charged with careless driving.

The truck driver, a 21-year old man from Newmarket, was just six weeks into his truck driving training.

Traffic was backed up in the area for about 40 minutes while police investigated.

The intersection was shut down but has since reopened.
