KENORA, Ont. - Two American anglers are facing fines and a two year suspension from fishing in Ontario after being caught with too many walleye in possession.

The two men were fishing on Lake of the Woods on August 15, 2017, where officers discovered 15 walleye in their possession. A further inspection of their resort at Sioux Narrows revealed 17 additional walleye that had been caught on previous days.

The legal limit on walleye is four per angler. An Illinois man and California man were jointly charged for having 24 walleye over the legal limit.

The case was heard in a Kenora court on Oct. 31 where the men convicted for possessing more walleye than permitted under the Ontario Fishery Regulations.

Each man is facing a $3,000 fine and suspended from fishing in the province of Ontario for two years.

Under the Ontario Fishery Regulations, an individual may not possess more fish than the legal limit, which includes fish stored at home or at other locations, or being transported in live wells.
