Another suspicious fire, this time at the former Eddy's Home Bakery

It's the fourth in the past three days

Just before 5:30 this morning, fire crews from Station 1 were called to yet another fire in the city.

The structure fire was at the former Eddy's Bakery on McIntyre St. East across from City Hall.

No injuries are reported.

Chief Jason Whiteley tells BayToday the fire is considered suspicious.

It's the fourth suspicious fire in the past three days.

"We received a call about Eddy's Bakery, smoke coming from the building," said Chief Whiteley. "Police arrived just before us and confirmed it was smoke. Fire crews entered the building where there was heavy smoke on three floors."

Crews then searched the building for potential victims.

"They found a couple of fires in the basement area which they quickly extinguished.

"We're considering this suspicious because it's a vacant building."

A fire inspector is on the scene along with the police. The Ontario Fire Marshall's Office will also become involved as it is a suspicious fire.

Police are also investigating what's termed a "suspicious fire" earlier this week on O'Brien St. that send a man to the hospital with injuries suffered while escaping the flames,

It was one of three that day. One occurred in the 1100-block of O’Brien Street, while the other two occurred at the intersection of Cassells Avenue and 3rd Avenue West. Fire crews at the scene were able to control and extinguish all the fires.
