Dog stolen from Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre adopted by woman who found him
A Jack Russell Terrier mix that was stolen from the Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre has found a forever home with the woman who spotted the missing dog wandering in Alcona.
Roscoe, a six-year-old Jack Russell Terrier mix, was found in good condition after being taken from the animal centre sometime during the night on Saturday, Aug. 13. Three days later, Clementine Taylor saw the small white and black dog on side of the road near her home. After knocking on doors to try to find out who he belonged to, she brought him home for the night and instantly fell in love. It was only when she brought him to the Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre that she discovered his identity.
“We had already had him home and taking a dog that had already been through something as traumatic as being stolen from a shelter, and then having to take him back to a shelter, kind of broke our hearts,” Taylor says, explaining her decision to adopt. “My fiancé and I talked about it and both came to the conclusion that he would be a great addition to our family.”
The suspect(s) also removed two other dogs during the break and enter, one of which was dropped off by an unknown woman the following day. Still missing is Nala, a two-year-old Shepherd mix with a fresh incision from recently being spayed. She was wearing a cone on her head when she was taken from the animal centre. Nala is black with a straight tail and white flecking on her back legs. She weighs 44 lbs. She does not know her name so will not respond when called.
“We are relieved that two of the dogs were safely returned, and thrilled that Roscoe found a home,” says Tracy McElman, Regional Manager, Humane Programs and Community Outreach, Ontario SPCA. “We need the public to keep an eye out for Nala and urge anyone with any information that could help us locate her to come forward immediately.”
