Body found in Lake Nipissing

"A good person who will be sadly missed."

Witnesses say police pulled the body of a man from Lake Nipissing this morning, an apparent drowning victim.

Workers from a next door nursing home say they saw a man swimming around 9:30 this morning off a public access beach at the end of Marshall Avenue, next to Water's Edge nursing home. When they looked an hour later, it appeared a tarp was covering a body.

Ambulance, fire and police were all on scene.

The body was removed around 1:30 p.m.

A woman, Shelley, who described herself as a friend of the man said he lived in the nearby Edgewater Apartment building and was,"a good person who will be sadly missed". She estimates his age to be 50 plus.

Police have not released any details except to say it was a sudden death.

A post mortem is scheduled for tomorrow to determine the cause of death.
