Boy who drowned at Rushing River Provincial Park was from Winnipeg

OPP have identified eight-year-old who died at Rushing River Provincial Park as Kyree Bruneau from Winnipeg; cause of death determined to be drowning.

KENORA, Ont. –  Provincial police have released the identity of the eight-year-old boy who died in Rushing River Provincial Park during the long weekend.

The body of Kyree Bruneau of Winnipeg was found at around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday by OPP members, nearly four hours after he was reported missing.

OPP officers responded to the park at around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday and a search was conducted by the force's emergency response team, K9 unit, park staff and the Kenora Marine and Trails Unit.

A post-mortem conducted on Tuesday determined the cause of death was drowning. Foul play is not suspected. 

The park is located about 20 kilometres southeast of Kenora.

The investigation is continuing and anybody with information is asked to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers.
