Butterfly garden among projects, events, ideas on the mind of Jonathan Pitre's mother

Tina Boileau admits she's taking life one day at a time since her son's death, but those days have presented no shortage of things to do.

The mother of the late Jonathan Pitre is keeping busy this spring, as local organizations continue to honour the Butterfly Child.

Tina Boileau will soon be handing out an award, named after Pitre, for the hardest working player at the Ottawa Senators development camp.

She'll also be heading to the Redblacks home opener in June, as the team will be honouring Pitre at the game, as a community hero.

Those events aside, Boileau is also trying to get a book published at the moment.

And in the midst of all of that, she is also thinking of creating a community butterfly garden in her son's honour.

"I've had some outreach from landscapers ready to donate whatever they can and build it for me, so I know [the idea is] there, but being able to organize everything is very challenging," Boileau told Ottawa Today with Mark Sutcliffe on 1310 NEWS.

Boileau explained that she would like the garden to be built in Ottawa, and mentioned that there has been word of a school being named or re-named after Pitre.

"So maybe [it could be built] close to the school," she said. "That would be a great place for the kids to be able to go and I'd like it to be a community thing -- somewhere people can go and admire the beauty of it and have a zen moment."

First up on Boileau's calendar is a five kilometre run during Ottawa Race Weekend, in an effort to raise money and awareness for EB. She will be joined by a team of about 50 people, running and walking for Debra Canada, including Pitre's friend Evan -- an 8-year-old from Montreal who also suffers with EB.
