Controversial tweets have Kanata Carleton candidate in hot water

Comments made by Dr. Merrilee Fullerton in 2015 are being called Islamophobic and unacceptable.

The Ontario Liberal Party is calling on the Progressive Conservative Party to replace Kanata Carleton candidate Dr. Merrillee Fullerton, over a set of controversial tweets from 2015.

May 17 is the deadline to nominate candidates with Elections Ontario.

In a release Wednesday morning, the Liberals said, "Fullerton does not meet the standard to be a candidate for a mainstream political party," calling her comments Islamophobic and unacceptable.

Fullerton is believed to be a front-runner for health minister if the PC Party wins this June's provincial election.

The Kanata Carleton candidate has been contacted by OttawaMatters.com to comment on the issue, but has not responded.
