OPP say a Mattawa woman was sexually assaulted by a stranger who presented himself as deaf and mute.

On Friday, August 16, at 12:20 p.m., a Mattawa resident answered a knock at her door.

"A person held a card to the glass which stated 'I am deaf and mute. I am selling flashlights to raise money for my family,' said Acting Sergeant Shona Camirand.

"When the resident opened the door she was sexually assaulted."

The woman called 911 and police found the man a short time later.

A 62-year-old Montreal man has been charged with sexual assault. He was released with conditions and is scheduled to attend court in North Bay Sept. 9.

North Bay OPP is asking for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with information to contact the North Bay OPP at (705) 495-3878.
