ELLIOT LAKE — Drinking can lead to some unusual behaviour, but not usually to this degree.

On Saturday evening East Algoma OPP officers got a call about an unwanted person at an apartment in Elliot Lake.

The caller complained about an intoxicated woman who was refusing to leave.

Police arrived to find the woman standing at the apartment complex entrance in a "highly intoxicated" state.

"For her own safety, police arrested the female for being intoxicated in a public place," said Constable Phil Young. "The female was very uncooperative with police, yelling obscenities, being assaultive, and attempting to run away. In the process of trying to gain control of the female, she proceeded to bite the officer's foot through the boot."

The woman was eventually brought under control but continued her assaultive, uncooperative behaviour said Young.

A 25-year-old Sault Ste. Marie woman is charged with:

  • Assault with intent to resist arrest
  • Resist peace officer
  • Fail to comply with a probation order
  • Breach of recognizance

She is scheduled to appear in court in Elliot Lake on October 29.
