A familiar face is about to return to city hall.

Council will name Daniel Gagnon as Elliot Lake's new chief administrative officer, seven years after leaving the same role.

“City Council is delighted to welcome Dan back home to his roots, his recent experience as CAO and his open and positive management style are exactly what the city needs right now. We are calling it a mutually beneficial do-over and looking forward to working together for many years to come," said Mayor Dan Marchisella, in a news release distributed to media.

Gagnon has spent the last nearly seven years as CAO for North Glengarry, an eastern Ontario township of just over 10,000 east of Ottawa.

He will be appointed by bylaw at Monday's council meeting. He will remain in North Glengarry until the end of the year. His new tenure as Elliot Lake CAO begins January 2.

Gagnon held various positions with the City from 2001 to 2010 focusing on economic development and recreation. He was named interim then permanent CAO in 2010 before departing for North Glengary in February, 2011.

A city news release says Gagnon has undergraduate degrees in Canadian History and Economic Development in addition to several municipal courses.

In 2010, Gagnon made headlines when he issued a formal apology for an "inappropriate" comment on Facebook about unsuccessful mayoral candidate Bob Whitehead following the municipal election.
