Fight over pets leads to assault charges

Over the course of the relationship, there were allegations of assault, mischief, threatening, and of the mistreatment of the animals.

An Elliot Lake man faces a number of serious charges after a fight with his wife over custody of their pets.

On September 16, members of the East Algoma OPP responded to a domestic violence call in Elliot Lake.  A couple was having an argument over the custody of the family pets.

Further police investigation showed that over the course of the relationship there were incidents of assault, mischief, threatening, and of the mistreatment of the animals.  

On September 19, a 24-year-old male was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault-Spousal,
  • Sexual Assault, 
  • Utter Threats- Damage Property, 
  • Mischief Under $5,000, and
  • Cruelty to Animals-Encourage, Aid or Assist in Fighting or Baiting.

The man is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on November 1.
