The North Bay Fire Department has been called in to assist with a transport-trailer accident on Highway 69 near Parry Sound.

Highway 69 at the Key River bridge, just north of Britt, is closed due to a tractor-trailer accident and hazardous material release.

"North Bay Fire’s Hazardous Material team is responding to help mitigate the situation as requested by the province," says North Bay Chief Jason Whiteley.

"The NBFES hazardous material team is one of nine teams that provide service to the province where hazardous materials teams are not provided/available or local resources are overwhelmed," he said by email.

Roads are considered very poor and a snow squall warning is in place in that area.

The OPP is reporting that the northbound lanes of Highway 69/400 are now closed at Parry Sound Drive. They were previously closed at Highway 124. The southbound lanes remain closed at Highway 522. In the update, the OPP said that the reopening time remains unknown.

The OPP first announced the closure at 5:58 a.m.
