A South Simcoe Police Service officer was forced to wrestle with a large pig on the loose after the 200-pound porker refused to get off the road.

Officers were called to the 10th Sideroad near 3rd Line in Innisfil around 4 a.m. April 24. When they arrived, the pig was walking down the centre of the road, an obvious concern for road safety. Officers knocked on nearby doors in an unsuccessful bid to find the fugitive pig's owner.

The stubborn animal refused to stay off the road and kept wandering back after being scared off. A local farmer came to the rescue and helped officers finally corral the pig onto his trailer around 7 a.m. No pigs or police officers were injured during this lengthy and unique apprehension.

South Simcoe Police Service would like to remind motorists to be aware of the many potential road hazards when driving at night.  In addition to wildlife such as deer and raccoons, we can now add pigs to the list of animals that you could encounter.
