THUNDER BAY – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is still seeking public help to identify the person or persons responsible for abandoning harvested bull-moose meat north of Thunder Bay.

Ministry officials say conservation officers responded to a complaint that the meat had been dumped off No Name Lake Road off Highway 527, about 10 kilometres north of the city. They have determined the meat was left at the site between 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 13 and 10 a.m. on Oct. 14.

Officers determined someone had started to butcher the meat then left it to spoil.

It's the second such case this month. An abandoned, quartered moose carcass was found at a site used by a Ministry of Transportation contractor to dispose of road kill a few days earlier.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact the MNRF at 1-877-847-7667 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

The ministry’s Thunder Bay district office can also be contacted during regular business hours at 475-1471.
