SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. - The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is investigating a second case in northwestern Ontario of a moose being shot, then having its nose and tongue removed while the rest of it was left to rot.

The most recent incident occurred at kilometre marker 145 on the Vermillion River Road, northwest of Sioux Lookout.

According to an MNRF news release, on Oct. 13 conservation officers discovered the abandoned carcass of a bull moose under some brush.

The ministry says whoever killed the animal hid the remains in an effort to prevent it from being found.

Earlier this month, the MNRF reported a similar incident on the South Bay Mine Road northeast of Ear Falls.

After shooting a moose, the culprit had removed only its nose, tongue and bell before leaving the carcass to spoil.

The ministry is asking any member of the public with information about either case to phone its TIPS line at 1-877-847-7667 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
