The Governor General, Julie Payette, will be investing 39 recipients into the Order of Canada during a Ceremony at Rideau Hall Wednesday.

Sault Ste. Marie native Dr. Roberta Bondar is one of three who will be promoted to Companion. According to a press release issued by the governor general, this level "recognizes national pre-eminence or international service or achievement."

Bondar became an Officer of the Order in 1992.

Bondar went into orbit on the first international microgravity laboratory aboard the shuttle Discovery in 1992. She was also the world's first neurologist and Canada's first female in space.

In addition to her time in space, Bondar is also a professional nature and landscape photographer.

Three, including Bondar, will be receiving the honour of Companions, in addition to nine Officers, and 27 Members.

The Order of Canada is one of our nation's highest civilian honours, recognizing outstanding achievement.
