One new fire in the northeast region

One new forest fires has been confirmed in the northeast region as of this afternoon, Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services stated in a release issued today.

Cochrane 18, located approximately 80 kilometres east of Attawapiskat, in the Far North, is being observed at 5 hectares.

Currently, there are six other active fires in the region. Of these, one is being held and five are considered to be under control. 

The fire hazard ranges mostly from low to moderate, except for a few small areas of the region which are maintaining a high hazard this afternoon: they are located north of Lake Nipissing and northeastward to Temagami; in Cartier and surrounding areas; in Bisset Creek and southward into a portion of Algonquin Park; in Thessalon and its surrounding areas; and in Pukaskwa National Park.
