OPP 'rolling block' puts brakes on luxury car stunt driving complaints on Highway 400

Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Mercedes among a dozen high-end vehicles impounded

The OPP impounded a dozen high-end vehicles including Lamborghinis, Porsches and Ferraris following reports of stunt driving on Highway 400.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says officers did a 'rolling block' manoeuvre to corral a bunch of vehicles allegedly stunt driving Sunday afternoon near Barrie.

"We had reports of a whole group of vehicles travelling erratically, aggressively, dangerously and coming off of Highway 407 and heading north on Highway 400," said Schmidt.

"They continued up the highway, passing on the inside, passing on shoulders, passing aggressively, driving aggressively, speeding - everything that you're not supposed to be doing out on provincial roads."

OPP officers responded to the complaints by using the rolling block, which involves cruisers boxing in a vehicle, to funnel all the cars into the ONroute service centre just north of the Mapleview Drive exit.

Schmidt says witnesses helped police identify the vehicles allegedly involved.

"We've got twelve vehicles that have been impounded including a Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Lamborghinis, BMWs, Ferraris, Audis and everything else -  luxury cars. These drivers are off the road right now," Schmidt said.

The drivers are charged with stunt driving, which includes a seven day license suspension and their vehicles impounded for seven days, Schmidt said.

He says the investigation is continuing and more charges could be pending.

"If you want to have that kind of driving experience take it to the track. Go in a controlled environment," he said.

If you were driving on Highway 400 Sunday afternoon and if you have a dash cam or any information that can help police with this investigation you are asked to call Aurora OPP 905-841-5777.
