OPP suspect arson in three North Bay-area cottage fires

'Our hearts are absolutely BROKEN over this'

NORTH BAY — OPP are investigating three suspicious fires at North Bay-area seasonal properties.

Between April 13 and 15, the North Bay OPP Detachment and Almaguin Highlands Detachment received calls about three suspicious fires.

Two of the fires occurred on Granite Hill Road in the Township of Nipissing and the third was located on Rye Road in Machar Township.

The fires are believed to have occurred sometime between March 14 and April 12.

The buildings are all described as seasonal properties with cottages on them.

One of the owners posted on Facebook, "Our family cabin burned down this past EASTER wknd. Whoever did this needs to burn in hell !!!

"It was my parent's cabin. They did soooooo much work to it over the years. Our hearts are absolutely BROKEN over this. On the 29th of this month it will be 1 year that my dad passed away. For him to watch from heaven and see alllll his hard work be torched is soooo heartbreaking for our family. This was a retirement nest for my parents and now NOTHING."

The owner says they found a window screen not too far from the fire which may indicate how the arsonist got into the cabin.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding these incidents to contact the OPP toll free at 1-888-310-1122.

Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
