EAST FERRIS — Police are hoping a large fine will act as a deterrent to others thinking of hosting large parties during the COVID pandemic.
Just before midnight on Saturday, October 24, North Bay OPP responded to a complaint of a large house party at a house on Eglington Road North in East Ferris.

Officers arrived and found approximately 40-50 youths (under the age of 20), within the home, violating the Reopening Ontario Act (ROA) which limits indoor social gatherings to 10 people or less.
As a result, the host, an 18-year-old from East Ferris, was charged with:
- Fail to Comply with a Continued Section 7.0.2 Order, contrary to section 10(1)(a) of the Reopening Ontario Act.
It carries an $880 fine if convicted.
Police say they will continue to enforce provincial and federal statutes, as well as supporting compliance with ROA regulations, while reminding the public that it is the collective responsibility of all Ontarians to comply with the ROA in order to limit the spread of COVID-19.
