Photos: Lo-Ellen Park cleans up at northern track championships

In terms of overall scoring, the South End high school was more than 200 points ahead of its next closest competitor

Lo-Ellen Park Secondary blew away the competition at the first Northern Ontario Secondary School Athletics track and field championship in two years.

The event was held May 25-26 at the Jo Forman Track Complex in Sault Ste. Marie. In the overall scoring, Lo-Ellen was more than 200 points ahead of its next closest competitor, racking up 594 points to St. Mary's College's 393. In third overall was Korah C&VS with 345 points.

On the female side, Lo-Ellen athletes accumulated 165 total points, while the male athletes finished with 348.

One new Northern Ontario record was set at the competition as well. Lasalle Secondary student para-racer Riley Cornethwaite broke the 800-metre running record of 3:00.23 by finishing with a time of 2:54.58.

Top finishers will represent their schools at the provincial OFSAA, to be held June 2-4 at York University in Toronto.
