THUNDER BAY - A 35-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday night at a south side residence.

The victim's mother identified the victim as Geoff Corbeil in a Facebook post.

Police, in a release issued on Monday morning, said they responded to reports of possible gunfire at a home in the 300 bock of Brodie Street at about 6:30 p.m. and when they arrived, found a male with serious, life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews immediately began treatment before rushing the man to hospital.

A woman identifying herself as Claudette Corbeil, said her worst nightmare has come true, in a Facebook post from Sunday night.

"I have frantically been trying to reach out to my son for months now," she writes. "Only to get that dreaded phone all, my son Geoff died of multiple gunshot wounds. I arrived at the hospital only to be given the bad news. I wasn't even allowed to see him."

Police, who withheld the victim's name pending notification of next of kin, have not indicated if anyone was taken into custody. A reporter on scene on Sunday night said he saw police canvassing the neighbourhood.

Police say they are investigating the incident as a homicide and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 684-1200, 1-800-222-8477 or www.p3tips.com.
