Ritz Bits Sandwiches recalled due to salmonella risk

Certain cheese and pizza flavored Ritz Bits Sandwiches are being recalled due to salmonella contamination risk.

Mondelēz Canada is recalling cheese and pizza flavoured Christie brand Ritz Bits Sandwiches due to possible salmonella contamination.
There have been no illnesses reported from the consumption of this product, however, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency warns customers to throw out the product or return it to the store from which it was purchased.

The recall was triggered by a recall in another country. CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation which could lead to the recall of other products as well.

Food that has been contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but it could still make consumers sick.

Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections.

Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea.

Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
