Royal City Roller Girls strut their stuff at Exhibition Arena (20 photos)

Pride, passion, athleticism and some really funky names all on display on derby night

It's derby night in Guelph and inside a hot and sweaty Exhibition Arena the Royal City Roller Girls are laying it all on the concrete floor.

The Violet Uprising is in tough against Tri-City Roller Derby's Vicious Dishes, while the Royal City's Killer Queens roll off against Tri-CIty's Venus Fly Tramps in the second half of the double header.

They play hard and look great in their shirts sporting logos designed by well-known Guelph artist Seth.

About 200 people gather to watch the action, holding signs and cheering on their faves.

Names are a big part of the game in roller derby. Tonight we have Slamoiselle, Sudden Beth, Dilly Dally Llama, Slamberg and Lippy Wrongstockings on the floor, along with a host of others.

It's a fun-filled night with a beer garden, food and most of all some good competition.

Next home date for the Royal City Roller Girls is set for August 13. Check their web site at www.royalcityrollergirls.com for more information.
