SAULT STE. MARIE— Sault Area Hospital has erected tents near its emergency department entrance as the first stage of local efforts to be ready for any surge in novel coronavirus cases.
Brandy Sharp Young, the hospital's manager of communications, said over the weekend that activity would soon be visible at the south end of the hospital near the emergency department.
"This work is part of planning to manage patients coming to SAH for care," Sharp Young said.
SAH president and chief executive officer Wendy Hansson tweeted Monday that the tents are "in anticipation of higher volumes of patients due to COVID-19."
Details on revised triage and treatment processes will be rolled out this week, Hansson said.
"Great work and leadership by the entire team at Sault Area Hospital," Mayor Christian Provenzano said in a re-tweet of Hansson's statement.
