A happy ending for a snowy owl who got lost in a parking garage earlier this week.

Paulette Gagnon is the General Manager of Northgate Shopping Centre.

On Sunday, a shopping centre security guard was informed that a snowy owl got in behind the tower signing in one corner of the parking garage.

“I think the owl may have followed a pigeon into the space and when he went to get out he wasn’t able to spread his wings enough to fly back up to the top of the sign,” stated Gagnon.

A day later, Gagnon contacted Thomson Bird Control to see if they could help rescue the animal.

“They suggested we contact our signing company to take off a section of the sign so the owl could free himself from the edge of the enclosed space,” she said.

Gagnon then contacted Dudley signage company to see if it could remove a panel which would allow the owl to fly out of the parking garage.

“Both Dudley’s and Thomson’s Bird Control were on site within 30 minutes. They were able to open the panel and try to coax the owl out,” said Gagnon.

However, the likely scared owl did not budge.  So instead of waiting they just left the panel off, and upon returning a few hours later in the day, the owl had flown out of the space, giving the story a happy ending.

Snowy owls have been making news already this winter with an injured one being rescued in city limits early in 2018.
