Sturgeon Falls man faces first degree murder charges

The West Nipissing Police Service has charged a 52- year-old Sturgeon Falls man with one count of first degree murder.

Marc Pierre Gauthier made a brief court appearance late yesterday afternoon in North Bay. The case has been put over to Nov. 28.

Gauthier remains in custody.

The deceased woman has been identified as 39-year-old Tammy Avery, née Lefebvre, of Sturgeon Falls.

Police report the investigation to this point indicates the accused and victim were in a relationship and lived together in the apartment where the incident occurred.

The investigation is ongoing.

"The West Nipissing Police Service extends its condolences to Tammy’s family and friends," said Chief Chuck Seguin. "We are also very appreciative of the assistance from Victim Services of Nipissing District who are working with us to support the family."
