STURGEON FALLS — A Sturgeon Falls woman has been charged by OPP with impaired driving twice in just six days and has become the 60th impaired driver charged in the Nipissing West Detachment area this year.

The first time came on December 6, at 12:30 p.m. Police received a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver who left The Beer Store on Front Street in Sturgeon Falls after a store employee refused to serve her.

Officers patrolled the area looking for the vehicle and at 12:55 p.m., they returned to The Beer Store to find the vehicle parked with the driver asleep.

Investigation revealed the driver had been consuming alcohol and drugs.

The 54-year-old woman is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Fail to surrender insurance card
  • Driver failed to surrender licence
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

Just six days later at 11:35 a.m., the Nipissing West OPP officer re-visited The Beer Store on Front Street in Sturgeon Falls to follow-up with the witness regarding the impaired investigation. He saw the same vehicle parked and idling in the parking lot.

Upon closer inspection, the officer saw someone sitting in the driver's seat and recognized the driver to be the woman he arrested on December 6.

Again, investigation revealed the driver had been consuming both alcohol and drugs.

As a result, she was charged with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs and was served with a three-day Warn Range Suspension.

On both occasions, she was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sturgeon Falls on February 6.
