THUNDER BAY — A Sudbury man is facing several charges after police responded to a weapons call just before 2 a.m. on early Tuesday morning.
Police say they were dispatched to the 300-block of Syndicate Street South in Thunder Bay just before 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, and located an injured male at the corner of Brodie and Arthur streets, according to a police news release. Police say the victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of his serious injuries.
Officers learned a male suspect had attacked the victim during a confrontation at a residence in the 300-block of Brodie Street South and learned the accused had refused to allow the victim to seek medical assistance until after payment was made, police said.
The accused, a 24-year-old man, was arrested just before 3 a.m. and was also found to be in possession of a schedule 1 substance.
Police charged the suspect with aggravated assault, assault, extortion, possession of fentanyl and failing to comply with a judicial release. Police say the two men were known to each other.
He appeared in Thunder Bay bail court on Tuesday morning and will remain in custody. His next court date is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 13 for bail planning purposes.
