THUNDER BAY – A 22-year-old man has been arrested and is facing multiple charges for an alleged robbery in the parking lot of a Memorial Avenue coffee shop that led to a woman being stabbed.

Thunder Bay Police Service's community response team officers apprehended the suspect on the 400 block of Waterloo Street on Wednesday, one week after the incident in the parking lot of the Tim Hortons at the corner of Memorial Avenue and John Street.

Police previously said a 40-year-old woman in her vehicle was approached by the suspect, who opened the driver's door and attempted to take her purse. The victim was stabbed during the ensuing struggle. A female passenger was able to retrieve the purse before the suspect fled down Memorial Avenue.

The 22-year-old Fort Hope man is charged with robbery with wounding, assault with a weapon and uttering threats to kill.

The suspect appeared in court on Thursday and is being held in custody.
