TIMMINS — Updated Sept. 24 at 12:15 p.m.: The suspect in a Schumacher murder investigation is still at large.

Yesterday, Timmins Police said a suspect was arrested north of Barrie. Police have determined that the man arrested was not responsible for the shooting that left one man dead and two people in hospital.

"The Timmins Police Service continues to seek information on the whereabouts of the person responsible for the shooting," reads an update from police today (Sept. 24).

The investigation into the Sept. 23 shooting in an apartment on Father Costello Drive is ongoing and proceeding at a "healthy pace."

A local man died at the scene. His identity has not been released.

The other two people — a man and a woman who are both from Timmins — were brought to Timmins and District Hospital with gunshot wounds.

As of yesterday afternoon, the male victim was conscious and alert and the woman was transferred to another hospital. Both victims remain in hospital today.

The scene of the shooting remains under the control of Timmins Police.

"An obvious police presence in Schumacher can be expected as various sites merit police scrutiny in keeping with this investigation," reads today's update.

The shooting is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety at this point.

Police are working under the premise that the people involved were familiar with each other. They suspect it is "part of the drug subculture in the Timmins area".

Anyone who saw something suspicious in the area is asked to call Timmins Police at 705-264-1201. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
