A 28-year-old Gatineau man is facing a few charges, including criminal harassment, after a number of incidents involving women's underwear being stolen in the Masson-Angers area.
Police say they received six similar complaints in the area since mid-February.
In all cases the suspect would leave a note to the victims, under the wiper of their vehicle or prominently near their home, asking them to contact him so that he can buy them clothes. He said he wanted to, (translated from French) "covet their underwear more precisely."
In some cases, the suspect allegedly entered the backyards of his victims during the night to steal clothing and swimsuits left on the clothesline.
All of the complaints received are from women living or working in the Masson-Angers area, but Gatineau police are not excluding the possibility that the suspect has made other victims in other areas of the city.
The suspect was arrested at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 4, in the Masson-Angers area. A search is underway at the individual's home to collect investigative material.
He is facing charges of:
- Criminal harassment
- Night intrusion
- Theft
He will appear tomorrow in the Court of Quebec.
