THUNDER BAY - A teenaged boy facing a charge of first-degree murder has been brought back into custody and charged with one count of arson.
The boy’s name, as well as any other information that could potentially identify him, is protected under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The accused appeared before a justice of the peace on Wednesday, Aug. 12, and was officially charged with one count of arson in connection to a fire on John Street on Monday, Aug. 10.
The boy was also charged with one count of breaching a release order and breach of undertaking.
Thunder Bay Fire Service responded to the fire incident just after midnight on Monday at a John Street complex. A fire service spokesperson had labelled the blaze suspicious in nature.
The tenants of the residence escaped unharmed.
In January, the youth was charged with first-degree murder alongside 19-year-old Cody Shaganash-Echum in connection to the death of 18-year-old Austin Robinson.
The youth will remain in custody and appear in court next on Aug. 14.
