Ray Gravelle believes it was only a matter of time before something happened at the residence on the corner of Beattie Street and Vimy Street.

Police are investigating a shooting death that occurred at the North Bay location around 9 p.m. last night.

Gravelle, who lives right next door to the home with a number of apartments, says his wife heard three shots just before 9 and within 15 minutes North Bay Police had blocked off their street.

“There was another guy with a rifle and another guy behind the cop car with a rifle,” Gravelle said describing the scene outside his North Bay home last night.

While a murder is shocking to the neighours, Gravelle is not surprised.

He says the home where the shooting occurred had been the scene of a multiple stabbing incident a few years ago and it is a well known drug house.

Most recently three university students moved out because of what went on there.

“They were in there for three weeks and they left, because there were things going on there and they did not want to stay there,” said Gravelle.

“They are lucky they did not stay there.”

Another neighbour called that residence the “scourge of the neighbourhood.”

Gravelle hopes something is done with that home.

“It was bound to happen, just a matter of time and we will see what they do about it,” he said.

“I suggested they take everyone out of the house and just tear it down, because for the next people it is going to be the same.”
