TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE

The Timmins Police has charged three persons for breaching the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act as the result of a traffic stop during the late evening hours of Monday, April 26 on Pine Street North.
While completing a vehicle stop for a traffic violation, Timmins Police officers determined that none of the occupants of the vehicle shared a common address.
Further investigation determined that each of the occupants was in breach of COVID protocols defined under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA).
Each of the following persons were found to be in violation of the EMCPA:
- One male aged 24 of Toronto
- One female aged 30 of Timmins
- One male aged 60, of Timmins
All the above were served with a respective Provincial Offence Notice outlining their offence as described under the EMCPA, O. Reg 11/21, section 7.0.11(1).
Each offence carries a set fine of $880.00 upon conviction or indicated plea of guilt.
This marks yet another instance where the Timmins Police Service has found it necessary to lay formal charges as the offence in question was an overt and intentional violation of the applicable statute.
As stated in previous public notices, the educational approach and generous use of discretion originally adopted by the Timmins Police has come to an end, especially in light of recent distressing numbers related to COVID positivity in our area.
