A late afternoon storm blew through Barrie Thursday uprooting trees and lifting shingles off roofs.
The south end in the area of Mapleview Dr. and Prince William Way appeared to be the hardest hit.
Carie SpagnoliI had just arrived at her friend's home on Mapleview when the rain started.
Her friend's husband told everyone to go to the basement to wait out the storm in safety.
"It looked like the Wizard of Oz. It was white for maybe five minutes, not even. It was really fast. There was so much wind it just looked like a sheet of rain coming across," she said.
"Then he came up and saw the tree had fallen on the car and in the back the fence had been ripped out. It was a little scary," said Spagnoli, whose 2012 Nissan Centra was under the tree.
The Spagnoli's bought the car just a month ago after her husband was in a car accident.
"I'm glad I wasn't in it and my son wasn't in it," she said. "It's a car and no one was hurt and that's the most important thing."
Barrie Fire and Emergency Service responded to wires down in the area and Hydro and InnPower crews were busy on Mapleview and Big Bay Point after multiple trees fell on lines in the area,
Residents were outside checking their homes and property for damage while a roofing crew went to work fixing the damaged roofs on the spot.
Adam Collyer and some neighbours were already up on their roofs to view the damage up close.
Nina and Paul Singh drove to Mapleview to view the back of their home where some of the aluminum trim was pulled off.
"We were sitting inside and suddenly the wind came," said Nina. "It was raining so heavy. I was scared because my bedroom window was open so I called my son. It all happened in five minutes."

There are no reports of injuries.
The exact nature of the storm has not yet been determined.
